Friday at Ama’s is inspired by a photo of an afro hair salon I have visited since I was a child. Ama’s has been a continuous constant, even a sanctuary at times, it's a place of fellowship and restoration. Even with changing times, changing staff, changing decor, even when there has been so much change in my life outside of it.  I have attended as a teenager, an adult, a fiancee, a wife, an auntie every time the experience is familiar and comforting a place where I can be a raw version of myself. Afro out, hair washed. You hear stories of joy and sorrow. It is truly a magical experience where you leave feeling revived, energised with a new style ready to face the world outside again.

Through my work I often like to capture moments from my everyday lived experience where to some, these moments may seem ordinary.
